Capture the whimsical trickery of early 20th-century holiday celebrations with this incredible, authentic antique embossed Halloween postcard. Published by the highly celebrated Nash Publishing Co. as part of their sought-after fortune-telling Series H-13 Playing Card suit, this card uniquely depicts the "Clubs" suit in the upper right corner.
The front art details a classic vintage Halloween tradition with a humorous twist: a young lady stands in front of a three-leaf clover or club-shaped gold frame border, attempting to glimpse her future lover in the mirror at midnight. Instead, a playful prankster peeks through the door behind her holding a pumpkin on a stick, making a grinning Jack-O'-Lantern face appear in her reflection! A black cat with a white ruffled collar looks on from the floor.
The postcard includes a charmingly funny warning verse at the bottom:
"If you are too Anxious on Halloween To peep in the Mirror before Midnight Instead of the face of your Lover you See A big PumpkinHead that's Fancy Free."
The reverse side tells its own history, featuring a crisp October 28, 1913, Akron, Ohio postmark, a handwritten message starting with "Hello Sister," and a green 1-Cent U.S. Postage stamp featuring George Washington.
