Step back in time to the golden age of holiday ephemera with this exceptionally rare, authentic antique embossed Halloween postcard. Copyrighted in 1908 by the Taylor Art Co. (bearing the stylized "Taps" / "T" monogram logo on the reverse), this highly collectible card beautifully captures the magical and mysterious spirit of early 20th-century Halloween celebrations.
The atmospheric front illustration portrays a large, glowing Jack-O'-Lantern resting on a stone wall in a dark, wooded landscape by a winding stream, with a full moon shining through the trees. Peeking out from behind the pumpkin is a charming, red-bowed "fairy elf" ready to cause some midnight mischief.
The card features a wonderfully eerie, poetic folklore verse embedded into the stone texture design:
"Jack O'Lantern sitting
On the wall alight.
Behind, a little fairy elf
All merriment, herself.
How she'll give you a fright
When falls the hour
of midnight."
