Elevate your holiday ephemera collection with this highly collectible, authentic antique John Winsch publishing and artist Samuel Schmucker Halloween postcard. Copyrighted in 1911, this beautifully preserved card features high-relief, crisp embossing displaying a lady dressed in a flowing white ghostly shroud. She stands under a bright full moon and starry night sky, cradling a smiling pumpkin Jack-o'-lantern while two realistic owls perch on an evergreen bough beside her.
The poetic verse at the bottom brings the imagery to life:
"When you hear the owls hooting,
Get your Jack o' lantern out,
Put on your shroud and hurry,
For ghosts should be about."
The back of the card features a divided layout with an intricate, blind-embossed floral spiderweb style design underneath the text area. It bears a green 1-Cent U.S. Postage stamp cancelled with a Maunie, Ill. postmark dated October 30, 1911, cleanly sent to an address in Evansville, Indiana. Proudly marked "Printed in Germany," a true hallmark of superior turn-of-the-century lithographic quality.
