* Though it is hard to nail down because of poor record keeping at the time, there is documentation offered by appraisers who were able to find references to a Japanese importer during the late 1800s and early 1900s using this Shimamura name and mark. It shows records he opened a store selling Japanese imports in Atlantic City, (New Jersey) in 1888. He was also an active participant at the World Trade Fair of Chicago in 1904.
