Antique Japanese Shimamura Nippon Meiji Period Tankard Pitcher Vase Rose and Gold Decorated

This lovely antique Meiji Period porcelain tankard pitcher vase produced during the height of the Nippon era and has been wonderfully crafted by a very talented hand. The tankard is hand decorated with large blooms of deep pink roses and green  leaves all highlighted with gold accents against a painted lavender and cream shaded ground. A beautiful and very large tankard pitcher vase with exquisite design!

DIMENSIONS: 15" T

MARKS: "Made by Shimamura" in Japanese, old gold foil worn label

CIRCA: 1888-1905

CONDITION: Overall Excellent with NO chips, cracks, or repairs, some minor wear to decoration consistent with age and light handling 

* Though it is hard to nail down because of poor record keeping at the time, there is documentation offered by appraisers who were able to find references to a Japanese importer during the late 1800s and early 1900s using this Shimamura name and mark. It shows records he opened a store selling Japanese imports in Atlantic City, (New Jersey) in 1888. He was also an active participant at the World Trade Fair of Chicago in 1904.
