Chatelaine Black Velvet Handbag

A wonderful early Chatelaine style purse in black velvet with silver metal floral embossed bottom, silver embossed monogrammed letters (appears to be EJL) and a stunning silver metal embossed frame with open filigree design and cupids on the front and back, the purse has a lovely cupid face with wings as its snap closure in the center. We do not see a maker's mark, but we believe this to have once had an additional silver metal chatelaine in the center ring that is attached to the handle and that is probably where the silver plate mark was.
A truly stunning purse in fabulous condition with wonderful detail to the frame, interior has beige silk with blue block squares, this is very French in manner with intricate detail. Purses such as these were popular from the mid 1800s all the way until the 1920s.
Would still make a lovely evening bag.
